This History of Ashridge was written in 1949 by Capt. Henry Gordon,

who received the OBE for his work at Ashridge during the war years

when Ashridge was used as a hospital.

Captain Gordon was a highly-educated man with a huge personal library.

The son of Gordon of Manar, a large estate in Scotland, he was seriously

injured in the Great War, losing an arm.
